About
Kirk & Granite Ltd. is a joint operating brand founded by James Steel and Bryan McCaffrey. It brings the experience and capabilities of James Steel Productions and bpmTheatrical into one integrated company, giving clients one engagement, one coordinated team and one point of accountability.
With offices in London and New York, we produce in our own right, co‑produce with partners on both sides of the Atlantic, and general manage for other producers and venues. A production can move between the West End and Broadway without changing hands.
The name is home. Kirk for Kirkintilloch and Granite for Aberdeen, the Scottish towns we come from. Granite represents foundations that hold: balanced budgets, protective contracts and plans that stand up under pressure. Kirk, the old Scots word for a gathering place, reflects how we bring artists and audiences together around work that matters.
Old Scots: make sure
Mak siccar.
From the first budget to the final performance, the details have to hold.
Under one roof
London and New York, the West End and Broadway: producing and general management together, every show looked after end to end.
The founders
A founder in each city, both involved in every production. Kirk & Granite is a working partnership, not a referral network.
James is a London‑based producer and general manager working across the West End, Edinburgh, Off‑West End and international co‑productions. Recent credits include Hit Machine at Soho Theatre, Daniel’s Husband at Marylebone Theatre, Fly More Than You Fall at Southwark Playhouse Elephant and USHERS: The Front of House Musical.
Bryan is a three‑time Tony nominee and leads bpm Theatrical. His nominations came for Operation Mincemeat, John Proctor Is the Villain and CATS: The Jellicle Ball. His work spans Broadway, Off‑Broadway and the West End, connecting creative teams, producing partners and investors across both markets. As a producer he led the musical Beau to ten Drama Desk nominations in 2026, alongside bringing Tony winners Beth Leavel, Matt Doyle and Marissa Jaret Winokur to the same stage in When Playwrights Kill.
What we do
Producing and general management from the first option to the final settlement.
Originating and producing new work and revivals for the West End, Broadway, touring and international stages, from first option to opening night.
Full general management for producers and venues: the day‑to‑day running of a show, from contract signature through rehearsals and previews to the end of the run.
Strategic oversight, co‑production and transfer, including moving productions between London and New York with one office at both ends.
Production and running budgets, cashflow, SPV and banking setup, accounts, recoupment reporting, Theatre Tax Relief and year‑end filings.
Union agreements and negotiation, creative and cast contracts, rights and licensing, visas and immigration, insurance, and venue and touring compliance.
Weekly payroll, royalties administration, company management, and the steady, unglamorous detail that keeps a company well looked after.
